Michael Shane Hurst (mshanehurst@earthlink.net)
Mr. Hurst received his B.M. in Composition and Voice from the Eastman School of Music where he studied under Samuel Adler, Warren Benson, and Joseph Schwanter. He holds the M.M. in Vocal Performance and Composition from SMU where he studied voice with Virginia Dupuy and composition with Simon Sargon. He holds a D.M.A. in Vocal Performance from the University of North Texas in Denton. He recently appeared in Dominick Argento’s opera, The Masque of Angels with the Contemporary Sacred Opera Theatre of Dallas. Other opera credits include: Ralph in H.M.S. Pinafore, Little Bat in Carlisyle Floyd’s Susannah, Henrick in A Little Night Music, and Longaville in Love’s Labor’s Lost. Also an active performer in musical theatre, Mr. Hurst has appeared in roles in such shows as Sondheim’s Sweeny Todd and Into the Woods as well as Tony in West Side Story. He recently served as musical director/conductor for Flower Mound Performing Arts’ production of Gypsy. Hurst currently teaches voice at DBU and previously also taught courses there in theory and musicianship.
