Dr.
Beth Quilian (jobeth@dbu.edu)
Beth Quillian is the current Director of the Keyboard
Division in the Department of Music and has served on
the music faculty since 1995. In addition to the critically
acclaimed Abby Simon, her teachers have included Peggy
Abraham, Jane Abbot-Kirk, Betty Ruth Tomfohrde, Nancy
Weems, and Robert Smith. Dr. Quillian is an active solo
performer and is also in demand as an adjudicator of
piano festivals, competitions, and solo literature contests.
A
deep interest in the development of pedagogy and accompanying
skills, has led Quillian to restructuring the piano
program at DBU in order to emphasize these areas to
undergraduate piano students. This coincides with her
love of artistic collaboration with singers and various
combinations of instruments.
She
holds the BM in Piano Performance from Baylor University,
the MM in Piano Performance from the University of Houston’s
Moores School of Music, and the DMA in Piano from Southwestern
Baptist Theological Seminary where she was awarded the
James C. McKinney Outstanding Performer Award.
