This information is a continuation of the DBU
Financial Aid Award Letter that you received in the mail. You were directed to this page from
information received in our DBU student Financial Aid award letter.
Please review your award package carefully.
If you wish to decline any part of the offer, simply mark a straight line through the award, initial, and return your award letter to the
Office of Financial Aid. Be sure to keep a copy for your records.
When the notice of your wish to decline an award or awards is
received by the office, we will make the appropriate adjustments.
Please continue to read through the information
contained on this page.
Change of Information: The award package as seen in your award letter is based on information you you provided on your DBU Supplemental, PLUS information we may already have on you here at DBU...your academic level, degree program, major, academic progress, etc. REMEMBER...it is your responsibility to notify the Office of Financial Aid immediately if any pertinent information changes, as some changes could affect your award. Failure to notify this office of any changes to your FAFSA or DBU Supplemental Application could result in cancellation or adverse adjustment(s) of these awards, and in some cases even a repayment of funds already awarded.
If you are receiving scholarships or tuition assistance from an outside source that is not listed on your award letter, you are required to report that information to the Office of Financial Aid. According to federal and state law, failure to report all aid received could result in cancellation of much, or all, of your awards and could require repayment of aid already received.
Condition of Awards: To receive the award(s) listed you must be:
(1) fully admitted to the university (students with an incomplete admissions file can be pre-awarded only, but not paid.);
(2) enrolled at least half-time (except for scholarships and grants that require full-time enrollment, or specifically permit less than half-time enrollment);
(3) attending class (failure to attend class could cause your assistance to be reduced); and
(4) maintaining Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress as explained in the information section of the DBU Supplemental Application for Financial Aid. (The Registrar's Office determines if you are eligible to continue taking classes at DBU, and will notify you accordingly.)
Disbursement: Federal, state, and institutional aid, including scholarships, will be posted to your account after the 10th class day (last day for adding classes in the long semester terms) as funds are available and verification of eligibility and enrollment has been made. Please note that one semester Federal Stafford Loans are disbursed in two equal payments, half after the 10th class day and half at the midpoint of the semester. If you are due a refund, the DBU Business Office will mail a refund check within 14 days after the credit balance occurs and is noted on your account.
Federal Subsidized or Unsubsidized Stafford Loans: The offer of a loan award on this letter does not automatically guarantee receipt of loan funds. To receive the student loan funds you must enroll at least half-time and you must certify your loans using the Loans by Web process. If awarded a Federal Subsidized or a Federal Unsubsidized Stafford Loan, please follow the Loans by Web instructions included with you award letter. This may be accessed through the DBU web site at http://www.dbu.edu/financialaid by clicking the Loans By Web link.
Federal Parent Loan (PLUS): If you have been awarded a Federal Parent Loan (PLUS) on your award letter, your parent must contact a participating PLUS lender to secure approval for the loan. Follow the Federal PLUS Loan Instructions on the Preferred Lenders Sheet enclosed with the award letter. If the Federal PLUS Loan is denied, you may then submit the Federal PLUS denial to the Office of Financial Aid and request additional Federal Unsubsidized Stafford Loan.
Federal Perkins Loan: To receive a Federal Perkins Loan you must enroll at least half time and then complete the following:
(1) Log on to ECSI's web site at http://www.ecsi.net/promi5 . Your FAFSA PIN is required to complete the process. If you do not have a valid PIN, you must go to the Department of Education PIN web site at this web address https://www.pin.ed.gov and retrieve/request one;
(2) Provide your Social Security number, last name, and date of birth;
(3) Provide your PIN when requested on the Student Authentication Network page;
(4) Provide complete reference information about yourself, next of kin and two additional references. (Failure to complete all lines accurately will keep the loan from disbursing to your account); and
(5) Completely read the PROMISSORY NOTE and electronically sign at the bottom of the promissory note page. The electronic signature includes a check off box plus your legal name. It is important that you complete this process as soon as possible.
Federal Work-Study: If your award letter includes a Federal Work-Study notification the following will apply:
(1) You must attend the Work Study Orientation which is held in late summer. You will receive notice of dates and times of the Work Study Orientation which is held the first week of school;
(2) The Career Services Office will assist you in locating a job, if you have not independently located a position;
(3) No student may begin working without properly completed paperwork, which will be provided at the orientation meeting; and
(4) Please be aware that Federal Work-Study positions on campus are limited.
Ministerial Scholarships: If your award letter indicates a ministerial scholarship, you need to complete the Ministry Student Grant/Scholarship Application (required annually). Some scholarships require full-time enrollment or are major specific. This award is not final until the Office of Financial Aid has been notified that the Ministry Program Office has approved you.
Applications DBU Scholarships: To receive DBU scholarships you are required to complete the DBU Supplemental and the FAFSA. These scholarships may also have other unique requirements that need to be followed. It is your responsibility to understand the condition of such awards.
