Dallas Baptist University has enjoyed a long, storied tradition of winning baseball. With 29 consecutive winning seasons, as an NAIA member, DBU qualified for 10 NAIA World Series tournaments between 1984-2002, including two times National Champion-Runner Up in 1985 and 2000. DBU won back to back National Christian College Athletic Associations World Series in 2003 and 2004. The Patriots played their first season as a Division I provisional member in 2004 and finished the season with an impressive 44-16 record. In 2005, DBU had a 32-23 record and in their first season as a NCAA Division I active member in 2006, they finished the season with a 33-23 record.
DBU has had over 118 players drafted or signed to professional contracts, including 10 major leaguers. Current Kansas City Royals' catcher Jason LaRue was a 5th round draft pick out of DBU in 1995 and current Minnesota Twins' outfielder Lew Ford was a 12th round selection out of DBU in 1999. Also third baseman of the Pittsburgh Pirates, a 2006 MLB All-Star and the 2006 NL Batting Champion Freddie Sanchez played at DBU in 1999. Also shortstop of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, Ben Zobrist and catcher for the Washington Nationals Brandon Harper were former Patriot players. DBU had a record seven players taken in the 2006 MLB draft and currently have 19 players in the minor leagues.
In 2006, the Patriots opened the Harold and Mildred Sadler Patriot Clubhouse, a cornerstone phase of DBU Baseball's Vision for Champions Campaign. The $750,000 project was funded by many generous supporters of DBU Patriot Baseball, which includes a 4,000 square-foot colonial-styled athletic field house, the Patriot team locker room, academic study, a student-athlete den, coaches dressing suite, sports medicine room, coaches' field office, equipment/ laundry room, umpires dressing suite and a remodeled indoor hitting facility. The Clubhouse will aid DBU in continuing to attract quality, Christian baseball players from across the nation to be a part of Patriot Baseball and its storied history and bright future by building a nationally recognized championship baseball program.
